Senior Compliance Officer (EMEA)

ROLE OVERVIEW

The Senior Compliance Officer will support the development, implementation and enhancement of the Group compliance framework across EMEA, including Europe, Africa, North America, and the US operations while supporting licensing, regulatory compliance, AML/CTF and financial crime obligations. A key objective of this role is to support the Group’s licensing and regulatory authorisation initiatives across Europe, including regulatory applications, licensing readiness, regulator engagement and post-licensing compliance obligations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Regulatory Compliance Oversight
  • Monitor compliance with applicable financial services regulations across EMEA jurisdictions.
  • Assess regulatory developments and support the implementation of required changes.
  • Support business units in interpreting regulatory requirements.
2. Licensing & Regulatory Authorisations
  • Support preparation and submission of licensing applications across Europe.
  • Coordinate regulatory information requests and documentation.
  • Work with legal advisers and consultants during authorisation processes.
  • Support ongoing compliance with licensing obligations.
3.  Compliance Monitoring & Risk Management
  • Develop Group-wide compliance policies, standards, and procedures that account for regional variations in law and practice.
  • Conduct compliance monitoring reviews.
  • Identify and assess compliance risks.
  • Track remediation actions and prepare reports.
4.    AML, Financial Crime & Conduct Compliance
  • Support AML/CTF, sanctions, and anti-bribery frameworks.
  • Review due diligence and monitoring processes.
  • Assist with investigations and regulatory reviews.
5.  Regulatory Liaison & Reporting
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for regulators across all jurisdictions.
  • Ensure timely, accurate, and coordinated regulatory reporting and audit responses.
  • Maintain open communication channels with local compliance teams and regulators, anticipating and mitigating potential regulatory issues.
6.  Compliance Culture & Training
  • Promote a global culture of compliance and ethical conduct.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of training programs tailored to regional needs, ensuring high adoption and awareness.
  • Support business units in embedding compliance into operational processes and decision-making.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILL COMPETENCE

Academic & Professional Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Law, Finance, Compliance, Risk or related field.
  • Professional certification in compliance is an added advantage.
Experience
  • Minimum 7-12 years’ experience in compliance, risk, or regulatory roles within financial services or banking.
  • Experience in banking, fintech, payments, EMI or remittance sectors.
  • Exposure to EMEA jurisdictions and licensing projects preferred.
  • English and French fluency is mandatory.
Skills, Competencies & Requirements
  • Good knowledge of Europe, Canada, US, and Africa’s financial regulations, AML/CTF, data privacy, market conduct, and corporate governance.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and negotiation skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders across multiple regions.
  • High integrity, strategic mindset, and proactive problem-solving capabilities.
  • This role though temporarily remote  requires applicants to be resident in Europe as this is a regulatory requirement.
