ROLE OVERVIEW
This is a transformational leadership opportunity for an accomplished financial services executive to build and lead one of the Group’s flagship financial institutions in Central Africa. The Managing Director will be responsible for institution building, strategic growth, regulatory engagement, operational excellence and long-term value creation. The Managing Director shall provide overall strategic, commercial, operational, and regulatory leadership for the MFB. The role holder will drive growth, profitability, financial inclusion, governance excellence and digital transformation while positioning the institution as a leading microfinance bank in Cameroon.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Strategic Leadership & Business Growth
- Develop and execute the Bank’s strategic plan in alignment with the Board and FAR Holdings Group.
- Drive initiatives for sustainable growth, profitability, market expansion, and financial inclusion.
- Identify emerging opportunities and position the institution competitively within the Cameroonian and CEMAC markets.
2. Financial Performance & Value Creation
- Assume full P&L responsibility for the institution.
- Deliver agreed financial, operational, and social performance targets.
- Drive deposit mobilisation, portfolio growth, revenue generation, and operational efficiency.
3. Institution Building & Transformation
- Lead the successful establishment and scaling of the institution.
- Oversee operational readiness, systems implementation, and organizational capability development.
- Drive innovation and digital transformation initiatives.
4. Risk Management & Corporate Governance
- Ensure the establishment of robust governance, enterprise risk management, and internal control frameworks.
- Safeguard the institution’s assets, reputation, and regulatory standing.
- Promote a strong culture of ethics, compliance, and accountability.
5. Regulatory & Stakeholder Management
- Maintain strong relationships with COBAC, BEAC, government authorities, investors, and strategic partners.
- Ensure full compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements and prudential guidelines.
- Serve as the principal representative and ambassador of the institution.
6. Commercial Development & Financial Inclusion
- Develop and implement strategies to deepen market penetration and financial inclusion in Cameroon.
- Lead product development initiatives across retail, SME, and digital financial services segments.
- Establish strategic partnerships to support institutional growth.
7. Executive Leadership & Organizational Culture
- Build and lead a high-performing Executive Management Team.
- Foster a culture of integrity, excellence, innovation, customer centricity, and performance.
- Drive talent development, succession planning, and organizational effectiveness.
8. Change Management & Innovation
- Lead organizational transformation and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Identify strategic market opportunities and mitigate emerging risks.
- Position the MFB as a leading, innovative microfinance institution in the region.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILL COMPETENCE
Academic & Professional Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting Economics, Banking, Business Administration or related discipline.
- Master’s Degree or MBA is strongly preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 10 – 15 years of progressive experience in banking, financial services or microfinance.
- Minimum 5 years in executive leadership, specifically within a Microfinance Bank.
- Demonstrated experience leading institution-building, transformation, or growth initiatives.
Skills, Competencies & Requirements
- Strong knowledge of COBAC, BEAC, and the CEMAC financial services environment.
- Strong leadership, communication, and negotiation skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders across Cameroon.
- High integrity, strategic mindset, and proactive problem-solving capabilities.
- Fluency in both French and English is mandatory.
